Speaker Bio

Basil Alwan joined Tarana Wireless as Chairman and CEO in 2021. He was previously President of IP/Optical Networks at Nokia, through the acquisition of privately-held IP routing startup TiMetra Networks, where he was founder, President and CEO. TiMetra built the first IP/MPLS service router, a foundational technology that allowed all communications to be carried over unified IP-based networks. The flagship TiMetra 7750SR platform and its derivatives grew to over $3B in annual revenues worldwide under his leadership at Nokia.


Basil is a recognized industry leader and especially enjoys working on ambitious projects that can disrupt markets with fundamental technology advances. He started his career with Advanced Micro Devices after graduating with his bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in 1984.
